Belarusian foreign minister speaks out against use of outdated politicized tools in OSCE

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – Belarus opposes the contrived use of outdated politicized tools by individual OSCE member states. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement during an online meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council on 3 December, BelTA has learned.

During the plenary session of the OSCE Ministerial Council the head of the Belarusian delegation underlined it is necessary to overcome the shortage of mutual trust and bloc-based thinking in the OSCE. He noted it is necessary to observe principles of sovereign equality of countries and non-interference in domestic affairs.

Vladimir Makei pointed out it is inadmissible for the member states to enforce unilateral restrictions. He noted that sanctions, particularly economic ones, are counterproductive. They never reach their goals and can only deepen the abyss of mistrust between countries.

Vladimir Makei mentioned Belarus' contribution to the resolution of long-running conflicts in the OSCE space and Belarus' efforts to counteract transnational threats and challenges. The minister of foreign affairs urged to focus efforts on real threats to security and look for ways out of the institutional crisis the OSCE had encountered.
