Belarusian FM urges to promote China's peace plan for Ukraine

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – We need to promote China's peace plan for Ukraine in every possible way, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told the media following the talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian minister said he shares Sergey Lavrov's assessments regarding the recent comments by French President Emmanuel Macron on Russia and regarding the conflict in Ukraine, including China's plan.

"I think France should really take a closer look at the positive, constructive and creative experience of China and Chinese diplomacy. Chinese diplomacy has already resolved a number of serious interstate contradictions and continues to work in the same vein, putting forward its peace plan for Ukraine. It would be worthwhile to concentrate efforts on promoting this plan, peace negotiations in principle, and searching for possible solutions," Sergei Aleinik said.

He recalled that wars end sooner or later and urged to think about peace. "This is exactly what Chinese diplomacy seeks. For our part, we will also closely monitor this process, the promotion of this initiative, the negotiations of China's special representative for Eurasian affairs Li Hui in Russia, in Ukraine," the Belarusian minister added.

Sergei Aleinik noted that Li Hui also plans to visit France, Germany and Poland. "We hope that at some stage he will come to Belarus. Because Belarus has always been the place of peace talks. We have hosted many rounds of talks, ranging from the Minsk agreements to the three rounds of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations last year. For our part, we will follow this process very closely. We will expect that our interests in this negotiation process as a neighboring country, a country that participated in peace negotiations on Ukraine at all stages, will also be taken into account," the minister said.
