Belarusian FM meets with speaker of Russian State Duma

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) - During his official visit to Russia, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin, BelTA learned the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"A series of bilateral talks in Moscow began with a meeting between Minister Sergei Aleinik and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin," the press service of the ministry said.

On the same day, Sergei Aleinik held talks with Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. "Cooperation between the parliaments of our countries holds a special place in the bilateral Belarusian-Russian relations," the minister stressed.

As BelTA has reported, Sergei Aleinik has started on an official visit to Russia. In Moscow, he is scheduled to hold talks with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Foreign policy cooperation between Belarus and Russia is systemic: Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov met in Minsk on 19 December 2022 and 18-19 January 2023, and also on on the sidelines of the meeting of the CIS Ministerial Council on 14 April 2023.

“The talks between the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus will cover a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation and the international agenda. In particular, the diplomats will discuss practical aspects of Russia-Belarus ministerial contacts, including preparations for a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that will be held in Moscow in the fourth quarter of this year. The foreign ministers will take stock of progress to implement the foreign policy coordination program in the Union State in 2022-2023 and the plan of ministerial consultations for 2023,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.
