MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – European bureaucrats do not want to see Ukraine as a peaceful, stable, and well-governed state Belarus is today. Belarus' embassy in Brussels, Belarus' permanent representative office in the European Union and NATO has released a statement in response to remarks made by the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, BelTA has learned.
Josep Borrell remarked that the European Union will continue supporting Ukraine as much as Ukraine needs, for as long as needed. The statement was made during an informal meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union countries in Stockholm on 12 May. Josep Borrell said: “We want peace. But we don't want a capitulation. We do not want Ukraine to become a second Belarus.”
Belarus' permanent representative office in the European Union and NATO responded to those remarks. “Since the very beginning it has been evident that Eurocrats don't want to see Ukraine as a peaceful, stable, and well-governed state as we know Belarus today,” the diplomatic mission's Twitter account wrote.
Josep Borrell has also previously stated that although Beijing remains an important partner of Brussels, it has already lost the ability to act as a mediator in peace talks.
