Belarusian Embassy demands official apology, investigation into flag incident in Ukraine's Dnepr

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - The Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine over the incident in the city of Dnepr, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

"Following the lack of response from the Dnepr mayor's office to the letter from Belarusian Ambassador to Ukraine Igor Sokol over the act of vandalism against the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus, which, by decision of Mayor of Dnepr Boris Filatov, was replaced by another symbol, the embassy sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressing a strong protest over this incident on 10 February 2022," the embassy said.

It says that Belarus considers the incident as a cynical manifestation of the unfriendly policy towards the sovereign Belarusian nation and as an act of state vandalism on the part of the Ukrainian authorities, grossly violating the fundamental principles of international law: the principle of sovereign equality of states and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the norms of international relations adopted in the civilized world, diplomatic and protocol practice.

"The Belarusian side demands that the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus be returned. It also expects official apologies, an investigation into the desecration of official symbols of a foreign state, notification of its results and exhaustive measures to prevent the recurrence of such facts in the future," the embassy emphasized.
