Belarus welcomes UNECE's commitment to balanced position

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich met with Olga Algayerova, United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was held as part of Yuri Ambrazevich's visit to Geneva to participate in the UN high-level events.

In the context of the forthcoming 70th anniversary session of the Commission and its Regional Forum on Sustainable Development this spring, the Belarusian diplomat reaffirmed Belarus' commitment to the UNECE unique mandate and emphasized the important role of the Commission in promoting regional economic and social cooperation from Vancouver to Vladivostok for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Yuri Ambrazevich and Olga Algayerova discussed various aspects of Belarus' participation in the UNECE project and other activities. The Belarusian diplomat commended the commitment of the ECE leadership and secretariat, in the difficult geopolitical environment, to maintaining a balanced position for the sake of constructive dialogue, finding joint solutions to controversial issues and respecting of interests of all member states.

The UNECE includes the countries of Europe, Central Asia and also United States, Canada and Israel.
