Belarus views Myanmar as reliable partner in Asia

MOSCOW, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus considers Myanmar to be a reliable partner in the Asian region. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi made the statement as he met with Ambassador of Myanmar to Belarus (with residence in Moscow) U Lwin Oo, the press service of the Belarusian embassy told BelTA.

Dmitry Krutoi and U Lwin Oo talked about results of the visit of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Than Shwe to Belarus last week. Dmitry Krutoi and U Lwin Oo welcomed the opening of the Consulate General of Myanmar in Minsk. They discussed matters concerning the development of the political dialogue, ways to step up trade and economic cooperation and humanitarian interactions.

The diplomats mentioned mutual support of the two countries within the framework of international organizations, primarily in the United Nations Organization. The formation of the legal base of the bilateral relations was mentioned. The Belarusian ambassador praised the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Myanmar and the Eurasian Economic Commission. Dmitry Krutoi pointed out that it opens doors to the market of the Eurasian Economic Union for Myanmar.

The ambassador of Myanmar remarked that agriculture, agribusiness, science, and technologies represent the most promising avenues of cooperation between Myanmar and Belarus.

The diplomats also touched upon cooperation in education, including the instruction of Myanmar students in Belarusian higher education institutions.
