Belarus, Venezuela urged to look for new cooperation opportunities

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Venezuela need to look for new cooperation opportunities, including in the parliamentary dimension, Sergei Klishevich, a member of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives, the head of the working group on cooperation with the Cuban Parliament, told the media following the meeting between Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko and Venezuela president's special envoy Adan Chavez Frias in Minsk on 7 October, BelTA has learned.

"Our countries have always been close. A good foundation of relations was laid under President Hugo Chavez. Contacts did not stop, despite any restrictions. Our country and Venezuela, as you know, have long been under international pressure from Western countries, the United States of America. We need to look for new cooperation opportunities, including in the parliamentary dimension. We don't yet have a friendship group on cooperation with the Venezuelan parliament. It is very important for us to support each other in this matter. As our states faced with unfair international pressure, we supported each other with statements and in international organizations," Sergei Klishevich said.

According to him, the economies of the two countries are complementary. "We need to help each other. If they try to put restrictions on us in some areas, to cause damage, we can easily fill these positions with the help of our allies. Therefore, we must agree here on some specific areas of cooperation, on assistance to each other, in addition to political support that we have provided to each other at various venues," the MP said. “The symbolism of this meeting lies in the man himself. He is a well-known, respected person, the brother of Hugo Chavez, with whom we began our close cooperation. Despite the long distance, our closeness is time-tested and, I am sure, we need to continue to move in this direction. "

Sergei Klishevich urged to reboot some areas of cooperation and discuss new possible projects. "Once again, we had good contacts. We need to maintain them in order to resist the enemies of our states together in the international venues," he stated.
