Belarus, USA discuss cooperation prospects

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko was on a visit to the United States of America on 9-11 July where he met with Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation prospects and situation in the region.

Oleg Kravchenko met with Jorgan Andrews, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for European And Eurasian Affairs.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States hosted a conference “The Changing Landscape of U.S.–Belarus Relations”. Oleg Kravchenko and Jorgan Andrews were discussants at the event. Attending the conference were representatives of the U.S. Department of State, leading U.S. think tanks, mass media, NGOs, embassies of foreign states operating in the United States. The representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Department of State communicated approaches of Minsk and Washington to the bilateral relations and their vision of the bilateral cooperation prospects, as well as international relations in the regional and global context. They also answered numerous questions of the conference participants.

Oleg Kravchenko met with Senior State Department Advisor at the U.S. Helsinki Commission Scott Rauland, President of the Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard, Senior Director of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement Michael Carpenter, and Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of the National Coalition Supporting Eurasian Jewry Mark B. Levin.
