Belarus, USA discuss cooperation in commercial law development

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – Belarus and the USA are keen to cooperate in commercial law development. This matter was in focus of a meeting between Chairman of the Commission on Housing Policy and Construction of the House of the Representatives of the National Assembly Viktor Nikolaikin and representatives of the Commercial Law Development Program of the U.S. Department of Commerce, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce in technical assistance, including in facilitating trade and corporate governance. The experience of the USA and other countries is important for Belarus, Viktor Nikolaikin noted. “We are ready to apply it in out legislation. It will strengthen our future relations,” he believes.

The USA-Belarus trade is increasing. In 2019 it topped $850 million, 20% up over 2018. Export of Belarusian companies is nearing $1 billion. “This shows that we are on the right track,” Viktor Nikolaikin said. He expressed confidence that the visit of the representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce will help advance bilateral relations.

The U.S. specialists came to Belarus to study the possibilities to improve the Belarusian legislation. They intend to find new options for cooperation between Belarus and the USA and outline promising areas.
