Belarus' upper house makes statement over EP resolution on Belarus

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) - The Council of the Republic adopted a statement in connection with the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution on Belarus. Its text was read out by Chairman of the Standing Commission on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic Sergei Sivets at the tenth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation, BelTA has learned.

"The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus resolutely condemns the adoption by the European Parliament of another odious resolution regarding Belarus and categorically rejects all assessments of the situation in our country without exception. We consider this to be nothing more than a blatant interference in the internal affairs of our sovereign and independent state, a violation of the inalienable right of the Belarusian people to independently determine their own future," the statement reads.

The decision approved by the European Parliament is in direct contravention of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law. Through politician pressure, sanctions blackmail, information and psychological terror, they are promoting a misanthropic policy bordering on extreme nationalism, the document says. "The decisions taken on the basis of outright lies and filth that exiled traitors are pouring out on Belarus cynically selling the national security and well-being of our country and people are obviously groundless and illegitimate. Any collaboration with these criminals shows absolute ignorance of the real life of Belarus and is obviously doomed to failure,” the statement says. “We do not need moral teachings from the outside. We know how to live. Belarus invariably follows the course of peacefulness, good-neighborliness and creativity. “Our country develops according to the laws that fully meet the fundamental interests of the Belarusian people with respect to all those who are open to a constructive dialogue with us, and we have the right to expect the same in return,” the statement runs.

“We are confident that the desire of Western functionaries to veil their miscalculations and mistakes in the management of their countries is counterproductive and futile. The European public will inevitably reach the moment of clarity. Under the current circumstances, a once-successful Europe is beset by serious social and economic problems, and its people are taking to the streets to defend their rights and prevent the European continent from descending into full-scale war. Everything that is happening in the world today is an echo of revanchist politics. Because of the ambitions of the proponents of these policies, humanity faces unprecedented challenges of global instability and uncertainty,” the statement says. “We urge the parliamentary structures, the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the International Labor Organization and other international organizations, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council to ignore the politicized, untenable opinion of the European Parliament regarding Belarus and promote the development of truly friendly relations and cooperation between the states.”

“The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus confirms its firm determination to oppose any attempts to encroach on the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, interference in its internal affairs, political, economic and other pressure on our country. No one but the Belarusian people have the right to decide how we should live, how to develop, what laws should be on our native land,” the document states.
