Belarus, Ukraine gearing up for 3rd Forum of Regions in Grodno

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Preparations for the 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine due in October 2020 were in focus of a meeting between Ambassador Belarus to Ukraine Igor Sokol and Ukraine Minister Communities and Territories Development Aleksei Chernyshov, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine.

“The parties noted the importance of Belarusian-Ukrainian events and the need to step up joint work taking into account the quarantine measures in effect,” the embassy informed.

Igor Sokol told Aleksei Chernyshov that Belarus set up a committee for organizing and hosting the forum. Belarus sent the Ukrainian part the concept and program details as well as contacts of those in charge of the preparations for the event in Belarus to establish two-way communication.

The parties also discussed preparations for the second session of the Belarusian-Ukrainian working group on interregional and transboundary cooperation, its format and agenda. They decided to hold the session via videoconferencing in case the quarantine restrictions are still in place. Igor Sokol proposed to add to the agenda the matter of enhancing cooperation in prevention and alleviation of emergencies, including fires in the areas close to the Belarusian-Ukrainian borders.

Aleksei Chernyshov confirmed Ukraine's interest in staging all events scheduled for 2020 that are important for the bilateral relations.
