Belarus suggests OSCE PA resolution on role of innovations in addressing global challenges

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Belarus proposes to prepare an OSCE PA resolution on the role of innovations in addressing global and regional issues, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk said as he spoke at the meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment in Vienna on 21 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Boleslav Pirshtuk noted that Belarus has consistently advocated the strengthening of the role and status of the economic and environmental dimension in the work of the OSCE. The head of the Belarusian delegation suggested that OSCE PA resolutions should reflect mostly economic and environmental concerns. He also briefed the members of the committee on the preparation of the Belarusian initiative on strategic forecasting which will be introduced at the upcoming OSCE PA Summer Meeting. The document will propose to focus on the role of science, technology and innovations in addressing global and regional issues,” the press service noted.

The Belarusian MPs took part in a number of events: the joint session of the three General Committees and the General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian. The OSCE PA Standing Committee reviewed the current international political events, the activities of the Parliamentary Assembly and the preparation of the forthcoming meetings in Luxembourg and Morocco in 2019.

As BelTA has reported, Belarus' parliamentary delegation led by Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk is in Vienna for the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group meeting and the OSCE PA Winter Meeting on 20-22 February. The Belarusian MPs will also attend a meeting of heads and members of the parliaments of the CSTO member states which will be held on the sidelines of the OSCE PA meeting.
