Belarus parliament speaker attends state funeral for Vietnam President

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – On behalf of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich has arrived in Hanoi to attend the state funeral for Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

Belarus was one of the first countries to offer condolences and to send a high-level representative to Vietnam.

During the visit, Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thị Kim Ngan. “On behalf of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, the Council of the Republic and the Belarusian people, Mikhail Myasnikovich expressed sincere condolences over the passing of Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang,” the press service stressed.

The parties also discussed a wide range of issues of the inter-parliamentary cooperation and ways to expand the legal framework of the bilateral partnership. “This will contribute to the bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investments in the short term, including in the context of the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Vietnam,” the press service of the Council of the Republic said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich expressed the hope that the head of the National Assembly of Vietnam will pay an official visit to Belarus to sign an inter-parliamentary cooperation agreement. For her part, Nguyen Thị Kim Ngan noted that Belarus was the first state whose high-level representative Vietnam receives on the occasion of the funeral events.

Mikhail Myasnikovich will be in Vietnam on a visit till 27 September.
