Belarus, Slovakia seek to further cooperation

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Slovak Republic Igor Leshchenya met with Juraj Blanar, the chairperson of International Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, on 4 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The parties exchanged the views on the state and prospects for the development of Belarusian-Slovak relation. The parties welcomed the results achieved in the bilateral cooperation, including an active dialogue at the level of governments and ministries, exchange of business delegations, interaction between regions and public organizations, work on joint projects in trade, economy, science and technology.

The development of inter-parliamentary relations is an essential part of this process. Last year, the speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic traveled to Belarus on the first ever official visit. The Slovak MPs of the parliamentary friendship group with Belarus met with their colleagues in Minsk twice. The parties noted the need to not only to maintain but also to build on these achievements.

In this context Ambassador Igor Leshchenya noted that the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus has set up a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the Slovak Republic.

In the light of the 75th anniversary of the Victory over fascism celebrated this year, the parties focused on the topic of preserving the memory of the tragedy of the Second World War, the feat of Soviet warriors- liberators. The parties share an opinion that the memory of the victory over fascism is something that should not divide but unite Belarusians and Slovaks in particular and all the peoples of Europe in general.
