Belarus, Slovakia celebrate 26 years of diplomatic relations

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Political affinity of Belarus and Slovakia was mentioned by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Joseph Migash during a public function held in the House of Friendship on 14 January on the occasion of the 26th anniversary since diplomatic relations between the two countries were established, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador noted that Slovakia and Belarus are connected by a great number of things, including peaceful intentions. “We don't wage wars but want to live in peace and tight cooperation,” said Joseph Migash.

Deputy Head of the Europe Office of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yelena Shpakova pointed out that Belarus and Slovakia are two equal partners, which confidently advance political, economic, and cultural cooperation on the existing historical foundation. The diplomat mentioned the importance of exchanging visits and the good level of development of economic contacts, contacts between the ministries of foreign affairs and the parliaments.

Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Voronetsky, who had been Belarus' first ambassador to Slovakia, recalled how Belarusian-Slovak diplomatic relations had been established. The former ambassador also reflected upon the historical affinity of the two nations. He said he was confident that the time-tried friendship of Belarus and Slovakia would grow stronger.
