Belarus, S. Korea in talks over visa waiver

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarus is considering an agreement with the Republic of Korea on short-term visa-free travels for nationals holding ordinary passports, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Korea Andrei Popkov said in an interview to the Konyunktura Rynkov [Market Trends] magazine, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian side has been consistently working on an agreement with the Republic of Korea on short-term visa-free travels for holders of ordinary passports. This document can give an additional impetus to increasing tourist flows between the two countries,” Andrei Popkov said.

In his words, Europe is quite popular with South Korean travelers. However, Belarus does not usually feature in their travel plans.

“Travelers from this country might get interested in combined tours to Russia, the Baltic Sea states and Eastern Europe, as well as Belarus. They might get attracted by historical festivals and local lore museums. I believe that agro-tourism might also be of interest to them,” the ambassador said.

Nationals of the Republic of Korea can take advantage of Belarus' new visa policy. Citizens of nearly 80 countries, including South Korea, can visit Belarus visa free for the period of up to 30 days. Apart from that, South Koreans do not need visas for short-term stays in the Brest tourism and recreation zone and the Augustow Canal.

At the same time, Belarusian nationals do need visas to visit the Republic of Korea. The cost of Korean visas ranges from $40 to $90 depending on the length of stay and the purpose of a trip.
