Belarus-Russia Unity Day celebrations canceled due to coronavirus

MOSCOW, 27 March (BelTA) – Festivities timed to the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia, which is marked in the two countries on 2 April, have been cancelled due to the coronavirus situation, BelTA learned from Yelena Ovcharenko, Aide to the State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

The official said that public events are forbidden in Moscow due to the complicated epidemiological situation, this is why the organizers had to cancel a solemn assembly on the occasion of Unity Day. As for celebrations in Minsk, a considerable part of the Russian delegation, including people of art, would be unable to participate in the celebrations in Minsk due to difficulties with crossing the Russian border and the need to self-isolate themselves on arrival. This is why it was decided to cancel them as well.

A traditional press conference of State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia has been postponed as well. The date of the conference will be revealed later. “We hope this traditional event of ours will take place soon,” Yelena Ovcharenko said.
