MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) – During the talks in Moscow Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov will discuss plans to strengthen the Union State that is seen as the core of integration processes in the post-Soviet space, BelTA has learned.

The parties are also discussing the implementation of the Union State programs. “We will discuss the role of our ministries in the development of the Union State, implementation of 28 Union State programs, as well as foreign policy support for trade and economic cooperation. And, of course, our actions in the UN, OSCE, CIS, CSTO, the Eurasian Economic Union and plans to strengthen the Union State that is the core of integration processes in the post-Soviet space,” the Russian foreign minister said.

Sergey Lavrov noted that this is the first visit of Sergei Aleinik to the Russian Federation after his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. “We know that you have a very busy schedule. Yesterday you met with Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matviyenko to discuss foreign policy aspects of interaction between our ministries and parliaments. This is very useful work. We also seek to step up a dialogue with the Belarusian parliament,” Sergey Lavrov said.

He informed that the Belarusian foreign minister laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, the memorial stone Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress in the morning prior to the talks.

“This is a testimony to our closest cooperation in defending the truth about the Second World War, the Great Patriotic War and in preventing the rewriting of history. Another striking manifestation of this was the participation of our presidents, along with the leaders of other CIS nations, in the parade on Red Square on 9 May this year. Their regular contacts highlight the need to maintain the continuity of generations and ensure the right attitudes among the younger generation. This is very important now,” Sergey Lavrov emphasized.
