Belarus, Russia to hold joint ministerial meeting in autumn

MOSCOW, 27 May (BelTA) – The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia are planning to hold a joint meeting of the boards in the autumn of this year, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told a press conference following the talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

“We paid considerable attention to the preparations for the next meeting of the boards of the ministries of foreign affairs. Given the high efficiency of the biennial programs of concerted action in foreign policy of the states - parties to the Union State Treaty we agreed on the modalities of such a program for 2020-2021,” Vladimir Makei noted. He added that the upcoming meeting will take stock of the Russian-Belarusian concerted action programs in the field of foreign policy over the past 20 years.

“2019 is the anniversary year as we will mark 20 years of the signing of the Union State Treaty in December. The ministries of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia are approaching the anniversary date with a well-oiled mechanism for bilateral interactions. We effectively coordinate work on international arena,” Vladimir Makei noted. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries are set to hold a series of landmark commemorative activities.

“I am sure that during this jubilee year of the 20th anniversary of the Union State Treaty we will we be able to give impetus to multi-dimensional Belarusian-Russian cooperation for the benefit of citizens of our states,” Vladimir Makei said.
