Belarus, Russia to finalize agreement on mutual recognition of visas by 2019 year-end

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia will finalize the agreement on the mutual recognition of visas before the end of 2019, Belarus Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko said in an interview with the TASS news agency, BelTA has learned.

“In fact the work on the draft intergovernmental agreement on the mutual recognition of visas began in 2015 and is now at the finish line. The parties are completing the necessary domestic procedures, working out all the nuances of its application. We believe that we will finalize this important document in the near future, by the end of the year,” Vladimir Semashko said.

The parties continue working to abolish roaming charges in the Belarus-Russia Union State. “The EU countries worked on the matter for almost 10 years. I believe that by joint efforts we will be able to create the necessary conditions faster and scrap roaming charges in the coming year or two,” the ambassador said.

As for the introduction of the common currency, Vladimir Semashko said that both Belarus and Russia understand that the currency is, first of all, an element of the sovereignty of any state. “Currency integration to the detriment of the sovereign rights of the partners is impossible,” he stressed.
