Belarus, Russia sign foreign policy coordinated action program

MOSCOW, 18 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov have signed a program of coordinated actions in the area of foreign policy for the period of 2020-2021. The document was signed as a result of the joint session of the boards of the Belarusian and Russian ministries of foreign affairs in Moscow on 18 November, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei reminded that ten similar programs have been implemented since the Union State of Belarus and Russia came into existence. “The results are self-explanatory: in this period our ministries of foreign affairs have managed to create a successfully operating system of interaction and work coordination at the bilateral level and the multilateral level,” the diplomat said. “We maintain regular contacts at the level of the leadership of the ministries of foreign affairs. Consultations between the ministries are arranged. Our diplomatic missions maintain tight interaction.”

Vladimir Makei explained that the program signed on 18 November outlined common goals and tasks, the main avenues for coordinating actions in the international scene.

A schedule for consultations between the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian one in 2020 was also signed on 18 November.

“It is an important working document to guide cooperation. It includes over 20 events,” Vladimir Makei noted. “The consultations will traditionally be held to discuss all matters of cooperation in regional and international organizations and on the bilateral basis.”
