Belarus-Russia inter-parliamentary cooperation discussed

MOSCOW, 16 May (BelTA) - A meeting between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin took place in Moscow on 16 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the lower house of the Russian parliament.

“The parties discussed the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and other organizations, further work on harmonization and alignment of the two countries' legislation,” the press service said.

Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the priority in the MPs' work is to provide legislative support for the decisions taken at the level of presidents Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin and aimed at the implementation of 28 integration programs of the Union State.

Sergei Aleinik and Vyacheslav Volodin also discussed the upcoming meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Minsk, which is to be held on 18 May.

Sergei Aleinik is in Russia on an official visit on 15-17 May. In Moscow, he is scheduled to hold talks with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
