Belarus-Russia cooperation on the rise

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Belarus-Russia cooperation develops positively along a rising trajectory. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko made the relevant statement as he met with Ambassador of Russia to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

Igor Petrishenko and Dmitry Mezentsev discussed topical matters of bilateral cooperation. Regional cooperation was mentioned in addition to cultural and humanitarian contacts. Regional cooperation relies on about 330 agreements, which are substantial, concrete documents designed to advance cooperation in economy, manufacturing sector, agriculture, science, technology, culture, and youth policy. “They produce a positive effect for every region,” Igor Petrishenko said. He mentioned readiness to continue working along every cooperation avenue without reducing the pace.

The deputy prime minister described the regular exchange of visits as a productive and quality format of Belarusian-Russian relations, which cements interregional cooperation. The Belarus president always welcomes heads of Russian regions. A delegation from Russia's Tatarstan Republic is expected to visit Belarus soon.

The organization of forums of regions of Belarus and Russia involving the two heads of state has become a tradition. In 2019 the forum took place in St Petersburg where the presidents set goals to advance cooperation across the board and prepare the necessary documents, Igor Petrishenko reminded.

As for the development of humanitarian cooperation, for instance, Russian Spiritual Culture Days will take place in Belarus in September-October. A forum dedicated to the historical, cultural, and spiritual affinity of the Russian and Belarusian nations is supposed to take place. Thematic roundtables will be held as part of the forum. Various events are also scheduled to take place in Gomel, Mogilev, Soligorsk, and Vitebsk. Belarusian-Russian cooperation in museum business develops fruitfully. Belarus' leading museums have signed agreements on cooperation with Russian ones. Specialists from the Russian Federation regularly take part in forums, conferences, and roundtables on museum affairs in Belarus.

In turn, Dmitry Mezentsev spoke at length about the development of cooperation on international platforms, in particular, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Belarus is an observer in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The status was granted to Belarus during a summit in the Russian city of Ufa in 2015. The ambassador stressed that Belarus is a very reliable and respected partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
