Belarus' readiness to make every effort to resolve situation in Ukraine's east reaffirmed

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei has reaffirmed Belarus' readiness to make every effort in order to resolve the situation in Ukraine's east. The statement was made during a joint briefing of Vladimir Makei and U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo after the U.S. diplomat met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 1 February, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei said: “We intend, are ready, and will make every effort in order to end the crisis in Ukraine's east as soon as possible. We are ready to offer Belarus as a venue for any meetings and negotiations.”

Vladimir Makei stressed that the Belarusian side supports any formats, including those involving the United States of America, if such formats can help resolve the crisis. “But all the parties to the conflict should be genuinely interested in it,” Vladimir Makei believes.

In turn, Michael Pompeo noted the situation in Ukraine had been discussed during his meetings with Vladimir Makei and Aleksandr Lukashenko. The Belarusian side expects the USA to play its role in resolving the crisis. The U.S. secretary of state assured that his country will help look for ways to resolve the conflict.

“It is just the matter the entire Europe, the entire world should pitch in to resolve. But in the end Russia and Ukraine should resolve it on their own. Everything the United States can do we will,” Michael Pompeo stressed.
