Belarus re-elected to UNCITRAL

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – During the 61st plenary session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization Belarus was re-elected to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Belarus has been an UNCITRAL member since 2004. The country's re-election to the commission testifies to a positive opinion of Belarus' contribution to UNCITRAL's work by an overwhelming majority of UN member states, the press service noted.

The participation of Belarusian experts, who belong to UNCITRAL's Eastern European group, in UNCITRAL's events, which take place in New York and Vienna interchangeably, their participation in the development of legal norms and practices in such areas of UNCITRAL's work as arbitration and conciliation, including investment disputes, e-commerce and online dispute resolution, improvement of insolvency law will contribute not only to further harmonization of international trade law but to the improvement of Belarusian laws on the basis of UNCITRAL's conventions, model laws, and other documents.
