Belarus' PM announces targeted response to sanctions

MOZYR, 31 March (BelTA) – During his working trip to Mozyr Oil Refinery Belarus' Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko commented on the use of sanctions in response to unfriendly actions against Belarus, BelTA has learned.

According to Roman Golovchenko, the head of state signed a decree on possible retaliatory measures against those who impose illegal economic sanctions on the Republic of Belarus and domestic enterprises. “It will be up to the government to decide who will be included in this list. Unfortunately, Western partners use sanctions indiscriminately, without understanding the situation and thus put pressure on the country. Our response will be pinpointed and more appropriate. The decree will be applied only to those companies that act in an unfriendly way towards our republic. This is our sovereign protection measure, we are entitled to it,” he stressed.

The document defines the legal framework of the response. “This is a forced measure for unfriendly actions in relation to our country and enterprises. This is our right and we will use it. We were taught simple, understandable rules from childhood. Every boy knew: don't start a fight, don't hit first, but if you are attacked, you should hit back. We will act using a similar principle,” the prime minister noted.
