Belarus' MP calls to stand up to hostile actions

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – Belarus is facing real hostile actions; therefore, in such circumstances it is necessary to defend oneself instead of just doing the talking, Andrei Savinykh, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives told the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper.

In his opinion, the very fact that the dominant political forces have to resort to such a primitive means of pressure as sanctions reveals a serious crisis they are facing. They have neither reasonable nor rational proposals or arguments, as a result, they are forced to resort to pressure, blackmail, ultimatums and so on.

“Of course, this policy has no chance of succeeding in modern conditions. Belarus responded to these sanctions in a rational way by consolidating the country, strengthening contacts with our foreign partners. The explanation is simple. The overarching and absolute hegemony of the West, which existed 20-30 years ago, is not in sight today. The collective West is rapidly losing its influence. This, on the one hand, makes them aggressive, but on the other hand, the sanctions mechanism is falling apart and does not produce the desired effect. Therefore, strengthening contacts with partners, with all countries that dare pursue an independent foreign policy, is very important for us,” Andrei Savinykh said.

According to the MP, the actions of Poland and Lithuania towards Belarus proceed primarily from their parochial national interests. Warsaw and Vilnius are trying to impose external governance on Belarus in order to get their hands on the resources of the public sector of our country, which will help them to more easily survive the difficult period of economic stagnation, which the world has already faced this year and which we all have yet to go through in the next three or four years.

“Poland took a chance on, let's say frankly, these predatory actions at the suggestion of the United States. The global hegemon would use the regional project of Poland (the new Rzeczpospolita from sea to sea) to control Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine through Poland and to slow down Russia. However, in the same way it can target continental Europe or the continental EU (it seems appropriate to call the European Union this way after Britain left it). I believe this is the logic of American action. This topic requires the most serious consideration,” the parliamentarian said.

Andrei Savinykh emphasized that politically correct slogans calling for the protection of human rights and the environment often prompt sanctions. “This has been happening for several years now. It's just that today the hypocrisy of these calls is becoming too obvious. When they crack down on illegal rallies and demonstrations there, they call it restoring order, and in our country the same actions of law enforcement are branded as human rights violations. How can we engage in a serious discussion about human rights, if the matter of human rights is used, and absolutely groundlessly, as a tool for social destabilization, as a reason for interfering in the domestic affairs of Belarus? The logic, the content of the political dialogue is emasculated, and any interaction becomes meaningless. Concrete hostile actions are being conducted against us, in such conditions it is necessary to defend ourselves, and not just talk,” the MP concluded.
