MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – Belarus respects the principles of sustainable development, UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said during a meeting with Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, BelTA has learned.
Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki noted that it is easy and pleasant for the UN to work in Belarus across the areas related to sustainable development. “This work goes forward when you find common ground with people who also respect the principles of sustainable development, a philosophy of sustainability that protects people's rights, and the fact that no one is left out," she said.
The current UN-Belarus cooperation program expires in 2020. A large number of different projects and initiatives have already been implemented. “The way Belarus utilizes international technical assistance and grants is an example of best practice,” Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said.
As for the 2021-2025 framework program, it is in the final stages of preparation. The main priority is the green economy and sustainable development.
Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki thanked the parliament for supporting the cooperation between Belarus and the UN and noted that this cooperation is very important for the organization. The 75th anniversary of the UN will be celebrated in 2020. Belarus, as a country that stood at its origins, will take an active part in the events timed to this date. Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki added that a lot of attention will be paid to discussing the UN prospects. Plans are in place to involve Belarusian youth in the discussion on this topic with the assistance of the Education Ministry and Maksim Tank Belarusian State Teachers Training University. “We will travel around Belarus, meet with students and teachers. We will learn what the world should be and what role the UN should play in it," Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said.
