
MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - Belarus seek to strengthen the role and importance of the CSTO in the system of international relations, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich said as he met with Tatiana Valovaya, the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva, Secretary General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General to the Conference on Disarmament, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was held as part of Yuri Ambrazevich's visit to Geneva to participate in the UN high-level events.
Yuri Ambrazevich briefed Tatiana Valovaya as the Secretary General of the Conference on Disarmament the priorities and plans of the Belarusian presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The deputy minister noted that Belarus seeks to strengthen the role and importance of the CSTO in the system of international relations, including through the development of cooperation with international organizations and the involvement of the Organization in the most pressing issues on the international agenda, including issues that are in the focus of attention of the Conference on Disarmament and other disarmament forums in Geneva,” the ministry said.
The Director General of the UN Office in Geneva noted the focus of the UN leadership on finding, together with states, ways to resolve the security crisis and a number of related global challenges in other areas. Tatiana Valovaya positively assessed the plans of the Belarusian CSTO presidency and welcomed the constructive contribution of the Republic of Belarus to regional and global security.
Tatiana Valovaya also thanked Belarus for its active position on revitalizing the activities of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, which remains one of the important negotiating platforms in this area.
