Belarus, Iran prepare for meeting of commission on cooperation in education, science, technology

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Islamic Republic of Iran Dmitry Koltsov met with Iran's First Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology Vahid Haddadi Asl, BelTA learned from the Belarusian foreign mission in Tehran.

The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation in science and technology and reviewed the implementation of the relevant agreements.

Special consideration was given to the upcoming eighth meeting of the joint Belarusian-Iranian commission on cooperation in higher education, science and technology.

The Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Iran established diplomatic relations on 18 March 1993. The Belarusian Embassy in Tehran was opened on 8 March 1998. The Iranian Embassy has been operating in Minsk since February 2001. The two countries maintain a high level of political contacts.

Belarus and Iran closely cooperate in international organizations, providing mutual support to each other. The legal framework of bilateral cooperation includes more than 30 interstate and interdepartmental documents.
