Belarus, IOM to step up efforts to combat human trafficking

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas has met with Mahym Orazmuhammedova, Chief of Mission at IOM Belarus, on the occasion of the beginning of her work in this capacity, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The deputy minister noted that Belarus and the International Organization for Migration have a history of fruitful cooperation in the fields of migration regulation, border management and fight against trafficking in human beings. He expressed hope that project activities in Belarus will remain high on the agenda of the new chief of mission at IOM Belarus.

Andrei Dapkiunas and Mahym Orazmuhammedova discussed efforts to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings in the context of the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the United Nations Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons, initiated by Belarus. “The parties decided to use this anniversary to step up efforts at the international and national levels to combat human trafficking,” the press service informed.
