Belarus holds another round of WTO accession talks

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - Geneva hosted a round of negotiations on Belarus' WTO accession on 18-19 February 2020, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

“The Belarusian delegation held a number of bilateral negotiations with several WTO members, including the EU, Canada and Brazil to reduce the list of outstanding issues related to market access for goods and services,” the ministry informed.

The Belarusian delegation was led by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yeudachenka. The delegation included Deputy Minister of Justice Nikolai Starovoitov, Deputy Forestry Minister Vladimir Krech, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Sergei Kalechits and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economy Ministry, Agriculture and Food Ministry and the justice Ministry.

During the visit to Geneva Andrei Yeudachenka met with WTO Deputy Director General Alan Wolff, and Chairman of the Working Party on Belarus' WTO Accession – Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WTO Kemal Madenoglu. The head of the Belarusian delegation informed the interlocutors about the measures taken by the Belarusian government in order to advance the negotiations on the multilateral track of the WTO accession and confirmed the interest of Belarus in the early completion of these negotiations. The parties agreed to hold the 13th official Working Party meeting on Belarus' WTO accession in Geneva on 24 March 2020.
