Belarus' FM, IFRC president discuss situation with refugees at border

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Francesco Rocca in Minsk on 25 November, BelTA learned this from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vladimir Makei informed Francesco Rocca about the situation with migrants on the western border of the country and Belarus' approaches to resolving this crisis, including the cooperation with international organizations.

"The parties exchanged views on the migrant problem and concurred that this challenge is wide-ranging, not limited to the situation on the border of Belarus. The parties agreed that there is no alternative to dialogue and cooperation of all interested parties in order to eliminate its causes," the press service said.

The minister confirmed Belarus' commitment and openness to cooperating with international organizations in terms of provision of humanitarian assistance to persons trapped on the border. He also thanked Francesco Rocca for the funds allocated to the Belarus Red Cross Society from the IFRC emergency fund to assist the above-mentioned persons.

Francesco Rocca praised the efforts of the Belarusian side within the framework of bilateral cooperation with the IFRC. The parties agreed on further cooperation.
