Belarus, China's Hainan Province keen to step up cooperation

MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – A delegation of the Belarusian Embassy in China visited Hainan Province on 24-26 December to take part in the 5th Sanya International Cultural Industry Fair, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Beijing.

During the trip to the province, the Belarusian delegation met with representatives of government agencies and companies. For example, the delegation met with Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province Liu Hongmei in the city of Haikou to discuss prospects for supplies of Belarusian food products to Hainan Island. “The parties stressed the readiness to intensify cooperation with the help of the newly opened Belarusian culture and information center in Haikou. The Chinese party officially invited the Belarusian delegation to participate in the First China International Consumer Products Expo due in Haikou on 7-10 May 2021,” the message of the embassy reads.

The delegation also met with Director of the Haikou International Investment Promotion Bureau Chen Liangzi. The participants of the meeting presented the investment potential of Belarus and Hainan Province. The parties pointed out the importance to advance cooperation with relevant Belarusian establishments, including the National Agency of Investment and Privatization of Belarus and to hold online conferences for Belarusian and Chinese enterprises that are keen to establish cooperation.

The representatives of the Belarusian Embassy in China also visited the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone. The parties exchanged information about operation of special economic zones in Belarus and Hainan Province. They praised the work of business communities of the two countries to strengthen ties between the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone and the special economic zone Bremino-Orsha and to facilitate the launch of the air freight service between Haikou and Orsha.

In the city of Sanya, the Belarusian delegation attended a meeting between foreign diplomats and deputy secretary of the CPC municipal committee of Sanya, Sanya Acting Mayor Bao Hongwen and took part in the 5th Sanya International Cultural Industry Fair. The event featured a presentation of Belarus' cultural, trade and economic potential. The Belarusian diplomats stressed the importance of the twinning agreement between Grodno Oblast and Hainan Province.

The delegation also met with Head of the Sanya Cross-Border Electronic Commerce Industrial Park Wang Dongqing. The parties discussed in detail the prospects for increasing the presence of Belarusian companies in the local market, including with the help of e-commerce instruments. The Chinese partners would welcome more Belarusian products on Chinese trading platforms and a direct flight between Sanya and Minsk.
