Belarus' CEC: 523 candidates are in the election race

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – As of early 6 November, an estimated 523 candidates were in the race to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said in a video interview at the website of the national press center on 6 November, BelTA has learned.

Some 560 candidates were registered initially. Later twenty-nine of them withdrew. Ten more were denied registration due to violations. “Two people appealed against the decision and were restored as candidates. One more such complaint will be considered by the Supreme Court,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

The CEC head did not comment on the new data on the competition for the parliament's seats (There were an average of five people for one seat in parliament immediately after the registration). She said that there are constituencies with 9-10 candidates per seat and there are such with two candidates.

Elections to the House of Representatives are scheduled for 17 November. The pre-election campaign is underway in Belarus.
