MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) - Preparation of the visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Latvia continues, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Latvia Vasily Markovich said in an interview with the Free City magazine, BelTA has learned.

“We are preparing the visit, but it has so far been postponed. You were busy with the presidential election, the election to the European Parliament. Our head of state has a tight schedule. But I can say that Aleksandr Lukashenko is very pragmatic about the visit,” Ambassador Vasily Markovich noted.

According to him, it would be advisable to prepare good economic contracts for the top-level visit which could serve as an added incentive for the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador underlined that Belarus seeks to build cordial friendly relations with neighbors because its well-being depends on this, among other things. He said that the governments, parliaments, some ministries of Belarus and Latvia maintain good ties.

“In March-April Latvia hosted as many delegations from Belarus as probably in the previous five years. These are the heads of ministries, departments, state corporations who would like to work with Latvian partners. These are the projects associated with the interests of Belarusian Potash Company, Belarusian Oil Company, with the plans of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, with the constriction of the new pulp mill in Belarus... I always tell partners from Latvia: colleagues, step out of your offices, look for freights, network with companies that may be interested."
