MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Pakistan is looking forward to the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan said as he met with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, BelTA has learned.

“First of all, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to meet with you today. And I would like to say that this visit has been postponed for a very long time - for two years we tried to get to you, today it has happened. Over these years I tried very hard to promote cooperation between our countries in all areas. The leaders of the two states had the opportunity to meet on the sidelines of the SCO summit, as well as the CICA summit. In 2015, I took an active part in the opening of the Pakistani embassy in Belarus. At that time I was on a mission in Berlin, but I came here to help resolve some issues related to the embassy's operation,” Sajjad Haider Khan said.

According to him, over the past 7-8 years, great efforts were invested in advancing all kinds of cooperation. “Today we have joint working groups and a joint commission that are working hard to promote relations,” the ambassador noted. “In addition to that, the 80 agreements signed between our countries serve as a solid foundation for expanding these relations in the future. On the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand, as well as the CICA summit in Astana the prime minister of Pakistan and the president of Belarus agreed to promote relations in spite of everything,” the ambassador said.

“The primary task was to hold a meeting of the joint commission that already convened in January 2023. Now we are working on arranging the visit of the minister of foreign affairs to Pakistan. The next step is the organization of high-level visits to both countries. Literally today, we have received a new letter from the prime minister of Pakistan addressed to the president of Belarus, which states that we are looking forward to his visit to our country,” Sajjad Haider Khan added.
