MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The People's Republic of China is looking forward to the official accession of the Republic of Belarus to the large family of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the near future, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the state visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Beijing on 28 February – 2 March.
"Since its inception, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has always followed the 'Shanghai spirit' and firmly adhered to the concept of open and inclusive cooperation and has been highly recognized by the international community," the head of the diplomatic mission said.
The ambassador also stressed: "Being an observer country, Belarus has always taken an active part in cooperation in the relevant areas of the SCO and has made an important contribution to promoting the healthy and stable development of the organization. The SCO summit in Samarkand in 2022 launched the process of Belarus' full accession to the organization. China is looking forward to the official accession of Belarus to the big family of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the near future."
"Looking ahead, we can say: China and Belarus, being all-weather and comprehensive strategic partners, members of the SCO and unwavering participants in the Belt and Road initiative, are committed to expanding political communication and strengthening institution-building within the framework of the SCO, promoting the alignment of the SCO and the EAEU in order to ensure a solid systemic guarantee for the joint construction of Belt and Road and to develop a more dynamic, comprehensive, effective and pragmatic cooperation," the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus said.
