Ambassador: Belarus-Serbia relations are based on trust

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Serbia appreciates the friendly relations with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia to Belarus Veljko Kovacevic said on 25 February addressing an event timed to the Statehood Day and the Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Serbia, BelTA has learned.

“Serbia and Belarus have always maintained friendly, fraternal relations based on mutual respect and trust. A testimony to the high level of political relations is the number of meetings between the Belarusian and Serbian heads of state. On 2-3 December 2019 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko was in Serbia on an official visit where he was welcomed as a dear guest,” the diplomat said.

The ambassador noted that Belarus and Serbia cooperate successfully at the interparliamentary level and at the level of ministries and other agencies. “The bilateral cooperation covers all possible areas, including agriculture, manufacturing, transport, culture, education, science and engineering, finances, tourism and high technology. Cooperation between cities and regions is gaining momentum, in particular contacts between our capital cities – Belgrade and Minsk,” Veljko Kovacevic said.

“Serbia appreciates Belarus' consistent and principled support for its territorial integrity and sovereignty,” the diplomat noted.

He mentioned some milestones of the Serbian history: “15 February 1804 marked the beginning of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. It was followed by the Second Serbian Uprising that started on 23 April 1815. This day is celebrated as the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces. These historic milestones mean a lot for our country. At present Serbia is a dynamically developing country. Its GDP exceeded 4% in 2019, like in the most advanced European countries. I would like to emphasize that Serbia was granted EU candidate status. Alongside with that, Serbia cooperates successfully with its traditional partners, like Belarus, Russia and China,” the ambassador noted.
