MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – Belarus-China relations have withstood the test of the rapidly changing international situation and remain viable and dynamic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the state visit of the highest-level Belarusian delegation to Beijing.

“Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations on 20 January 1992, China and Belarus have passed a 31-year mark of friendly cooperation. These 31 years have witnessed many momentous events for the bilateral cooperation,” the diplomat said.

Xie Xiaoyong recalled the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Minsk on 10-12 May 2015. The negotiations and meetings that took place during the visit gave a strong impetus to Belarus-China cooperation. “Xi Jinping visited the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone. The treaty of friendship and cooperation and the joint declaration on promoting and deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Belarus were signed. Government agencies and enterprises of the two countries also signed a great amount of cooperation documents covering trade, economy, customs services, education, culture and other fields. Due to its outstanding results, this historical visit was an important milestone in China-Belarus relations,” the ambassador said.

He also highlighted the importance of Aleksandr Lukashenko's visits to China: “In July 2013 and September 2016, the Belarusian leader paid state visits to China and held talks with President Xi Jinping in Beijing. During the talks, the heads of state announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013 and then the establishment of a trusting comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation in 2016.”

“In addition to that, Aleksandr Lukashenko visited China in September 2015 to participate in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He took part in the First Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in May 2017 and the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in April 2019. In June 2018 he visited China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Qingdao. Each visit of Aleksandr Lukashenko to China gives a boost to bilateral relations and becomes a landmark event in the history of China-Belarus cooperation,” said Xie Xiaoyong.
