Almost 17,400 national observers accredited for Belarus' parliamentary elections

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – Belarus' Central Election Commission (CEC) has accredited 17,400 national observers who will monitor the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, CEC head Lidia Yermoshina said in an video posted on the website of the National Press Center.

At present, the election commissions have accredited 17,357 national observers, Lidia Yermoshina said. “This is not the limit. Usually we have about 40,000 observers,” the head of the Central Election Commission said. In her opinion, the current figure will increase more than two times.

In addition to national observers, accreditation has been granted to 551 international observers from the CIS, OSCE, PACE. Experts attend meetings of the CEC and the supervisory board to monitor the compliance with media campaigning regulations. Observers also attended training seminars for members of precinct election commissions.

The elections to the House of Representatives will be held on 17 November, to the Council of the Republic - on 7 November.
