Voting for Anadolu Agency's photo of the year kicks off in 3 categories


ANKARA, 22 December (BelTA - Anadolu Agensy). - Photos of the Year will be chosen during the voting process on Friday from among the 85 most impressive images taken by Anadolu Agency photojournalists and reporters on a variety of subjects.

Images of the occasions that defined 2022 include war, politics, sports, and current events that have a significant impact on Türkiye and the world's agendas and are frequently used in significant international media outlets.

This year, Environment and Life was added as a third category to the annual voting that takes place in the News and Sports categories. The category of Environment and Life is a new initiative by Anadolu Agency in recent years to increase environmental awareness.

Thirty-seven frames in the category of environment, 22 frames in the category of news, and 26 frames in the category of sports will compete in this context.

These images were chosen by Anadolu Agency photo editors from more than 1 million published photographs from various parts of the globe, including Türkiye, the US, China, India, Scotland, and the Arctic Ocean, as well as Afghanistan, Guatemala, and Ukraine. International access will be provided with both English and Turkish subtitles.

Participants in the voting process can select at least one image for the News, Sports, and Environment and Life categories.

By using the campaign of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Forestry, participants can also donate seedlings by using the link posted to the site.

Every year, the Photos of the Year voting, which Anadolu Agency hosted for the first time in 2012, is attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, ministers, lawmakers, bureaucrats, athletes, and several artists. Some 312,136 people attended the voting in 2021.

Voting for the award will take place on till Jan.16, 2023 until 5 p.m. loca​​​​l time (1400GMT)​​​.
