Iran's Kianoush Rostami wins silver in 2022 World Weightlifting Championships

TEHRAN, 13 December (BelTA - IRNA). - Rio Olympics gold medalist Kianoush Rostami has won a silver medal in the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Bogotá, Colombia.

Rostami had a tough competition with Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla from Venezuela, Carlos Nassar from Bulgaria, Tian Tao from China and Rodaligas Carvajal Braya from Colombia in the early hours of Monday in the tournament held by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

He won silver with 174 kg in snatch and 206 kg in clean and jerk to finally finish fourth in the 89 kg category.

Rostami's old rival, Tian Tao pulled out of the race in later stages.

IWF's 2022 World Championships is being held in Bogotá from December 8 to 17. A team of 11 weightlifters including four women represent Iran in the tournament.
