JAKARTA, 20 November (BelTA - ANTARA News Agensy). - Indonesian woman shuttler Gregoria Mariska Tunjung achieved her first title at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 500 by winning the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023 on Sunday.
"I am very happy because this is my first champion title at the BWF Super 500 level; I cannot express it with words," she said in an official statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) in Jakarta on Sunday.
She thanked those who have supported and continue to support her directly and indirectly until she achieved her first title after defeating China's Chen Yu Fei with 21-12, 21-12 scores in the women' singles final, which lasted 40 minutes.
She said she is very happy with this achievement as it has set a new record in her career.
Her win made the Indonesian team of badminton players proud because it was the only champion title they managed to win at the tournament.
The achievement would also motivate her to win another champion title.
"I am very grateful for the win I achieved today. This win is so meaningful for her endeavors to go forward," she said.
According to Tunjung, her key to winning against the world's No. 3 women's singles player was staying calm during the match.
She was also more motivated during the match because she had worked hard to practice. Therefore, even though she was facing a superior opponent, Tunjung admitted that she was very ready.
"I dedicate this title to myself, who has never given up on the circumstances in recent years, and also to my family, parents, boyfriend, coaches, the PBSI, and those who have supported me. Like what I said, this title exists because of them, too," she remarked.
