A Belarus parliament delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Viktor Guminsky took part in the opening of the 24th annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) in Helsinki, the press service of the Chamber of Representatives told BelTA.
The press service told BelTA that delegations of parliaments of a number of OSCE member states have condemned the decision to deny entry to Finland to members of the Russian Federation delegation, who were intent on taking part in the OSCE PA session, including Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Sergei Naryshkin. Viktor Guminsky stated that sanctions are unacceptable in interstate relations and called for the reformation of the OSCE operation, including the adoption of the organization’s charter.
Viktor Guminsky also underlined the counterproductive nature of attempts to submit any draft resolutions for consideration of the Helsinki session if such resolutions do not try to bring views closer and work out compromises. In particular, the Belarusian MP spoke against confrontational statements and decisions that may interfere with the fulfillment of the Minsk accords on resolving the situation in Ukraine.
Apart from that, heads of the parliamentary delegations elected a new OSCE PA secretary general. Roberto Montella of Italy is now the new OSCE PA Secretary General. The term will start on 1 January 2016. At present Roberto Montella is the OSCE PA’s Director of Presidential Administration.
On 6 July Belarusian MPs are expected to take part in the plenary session and sessions of general committees of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
