The twinning movement plays a very important role in the development of the Belarus-Russia Union State and the bilateral relations between Belarus and Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov said at the plenary session of the 9th meeting of sister cities and towns of Belarus and Russia on 31 March.
The diplomat noted that the Belarusian-Russian interregional ties are difficult to imagine without the cooperation between the sister cities and towns of the two countries.
Alexander Surikov emphasized that in recent years, the twinning movement has contributed greatly to the general increase in the Belarusian-Russian trade. Even though there was a certain decline, all conditions are in place for further improvement.
“Further movement towards the unity of the people of Belarus and Russia should be supported by interregional and twinning ties. We hope that the momentum in the Belarusian-Russian twinning movement will continue,” Alexander Surikov said.
The 9th meeting of sister cities and towns of Belarus and Russia held in Mogilev on 30 and 31 March has gathered some 180 participants, including representatives of 35 Russian and 24 Belarusian cities and towns.
