Belarus assigns the key role to human capital and structural economic changes today, Rector of the Polesie State University, Doctor of Economic Sciences Konstantin Shebeko told BelTA as he commented on the Belarusian president's State of the Nation Address.
“In my opinion, the Address includes three fundamental points. The president, in fact, identified the challenges our country faces. I would unite them into two groups: geopolitical transformations and technological revolution. The president also laid out the strategies to address these challenges. The first one is the quality of human capital. The most important things are brains and culture. The second strategy is structural changes which embrace the development a digital economy, financial markets and business activity,” said the rector.
“The president also talked about the conditions under which we can produce an adequate response to these challenges. They include the consensus in the society, and, especially, the consensus of elites. The head of state made it clear for everyone: we, as a country, as people, are fully responsible for our own future. We understand the challenges and how to respond to them. At the same time we do not reject cooperation with other states. Like everyone else, we participate in this geopolitical transfer and we will take a decent place there,” said Konstantin Shebeko.
In his opinion, adequate and pragmatic strategies based on profound values of the Belarusian society will help the country deal with temporary difficulties. “We know how to move forward, but efforts are needed to make this move. Everyone should work, invest efforts and act as efficiently as possible. This was the president's message to the authorities of all the levels,” said the rector of the Polesie State University.
