The visit of Latvian MPs to Belarus will add momentum to bilateral relations

A visit of the Latvian parliamentary group to Belarus will provide an additional impetus not only to the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the law-making bodies of the two countries but also to the relations in transit, culture, economy and other sectors, Chairwoman of the Council of Republic's permanent commission on regional policy and local government Svetlana Gerasimovich said at the meeting of the working group on cooperation with the parliament of Latvia of the National Assembly of Belarus and Latvia's parliamentary group on cooperation with the Belarusian parliament on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

According to Svetlana Gerasimovich, Belarus and Latvia enjoy good business and friendly relations. Over the past years the countries have been successfully address issues relating to cultural and economic sectors. The two countries are interested in each others' tourist facilities. More than 50 cities and regions maintain twin-town relations.

While in Belarus the Latvian MPs are expected to visit a number of Belarusian companies, including Communarka and Amkodor. The program of the visit also envisages a visit to the agro-town Borovlyany and the meeting in the Minsk Oblast Council.

According to Chairman of the Latvian parliamentary group on cooperation with the National Assembly of Belarus Arturs Rubiks, the current visit is the continuation of the dialogue and friendly relations between the neighboring countries. Latvian guests visited Belarus two years ago. The Belarusian delegation paid a visit to Latvia last year. This time's visit will continue the strengthening of mutual relations between Belarus and Latvia. He stressed that the Latvian MPs were the group that opposed sanctions against Belarus.

Arturs Rubiks took note of the rich program of the visit to Belarus and expressed confidence that the visit will be fruitful.
