International scientific cooperation should stay out of politics, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota said during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 1 June.
“We should remove a political aspect from scientific cooperation. Whatever happens in the CIS or in the relations between East and West, science should remain apolitical. Different situations and misunderstanding may take place but science needs to be developed continuously. Close scientific cooperation is necessary due to the modern-day science demands that no country can satisfy on its own,” Grigory Rapota remarked.
He pointed out that each post-Soviet integration association plays an important role and remains relevant.
“For instance, the CIS helps bolster economic, industrial, and scientific cooperation. It also helps maintain strong international cultural ties. This is the so-called ‘public diplomacy”, Grigory Rapota added.
